Make Sure You Have All Your Facts Together When Creating Websites

By Iva Cannon

With the way the world is turning out everyone needs to have some basic knowledge of computers and websites. Especially if one is in a business and trying to reach potential customers all over the world. This is where creating websites can be very beneficial. For those that are new to this, don't worry there are so many sites that are willing to help set it up for a minimal fee each month.

WordPress.org is a site where one can download as well as install software scripts. The only thing that one will need to have is a web host. This is a service that provides space on the internet so that others can see it. The site will need to be uploaded or published and that is what a web hosting service does.

Many will argue that having a long name or even a short name is good. They are generally allowed to be sixty seven characters long. Sometimes having a shorter name will be easier to remember and will more than likely have less chance of typing in the incorrect letter. Others still think that having a longer name is easier remembered so the choice is entirely up to oneself.

If one is considering on having a hyphenated name there can be some good and bad sides to it. It can be very easy to forget that hyphens are added when typing and users might just land up on the opponent's site instead. Truth be told having to type them in is a real pain!

The positive side is that the search engines can find the keywords quicker and it will ensure the site is more prominent in the search results. Having thought this all through there is still a chance that the name one has chosen is unavailable and a name might have to be chosen for one instead. Having an org, net or com at the end of the choice is not that straightforward either. If the business is more for the local community the countries specific domain will be used. If it can be used for an international audience another domain will be added.

The platform is an underlying structure that is used to create the actual website. Many of them require that one has a good understanding of technical knowledge about CSS and HTML. CSS or Cascading Style Sheets is a language that is used for describing the formatting and looks of a document whereas HTML or HyperText Markup Language is more for achieving colour, fonts, graphics and hyperlink effects.

A widget is a term used for a part of a program interface that uses the computers graphic capabilities. It helps the user to understand a complicated command language that could be very time consuming to learn. A plugin is a way to add and expand a function that already exists in the programme. These help to custom features and functions so that one's site can meet particular needs.

A theme is the way the page will be seen, it is the front end styling of the site. This will include the page layout, colours as well as the fonts used and any other detail that is needed. There are thousands of free themes that one can choose from and for those that one pays for they offer support if something should go wrong.
