Make Your Site Known Through SEO

By Garett Shailesh

In order to market your website and/or business effectively, you need to have the proper information to guide you along the way. Without the right info, you'll be swinging blindly in the most competitive marketplace in the world. Read the article below and find out about some tips you can use for optimizing your website.

If you have a blog, make sure you list in the right category. Work on your blog's description to present your content and use popular keywords. Provide a description of the category of your blog if necessary, just so you can include different keywords that some people might use instead of the name of the category.

To encourage searchers to click on your site, make sure that you choose a relevant meta tag for every page of your website. The meta tag is the brief description that appears under your title on the search engine results page, and without it, people may not know what your site is about.

A great suggestion for improving your search engine ranking is to use many different video sites besides YouTube. YouTube is an important video site, but in order to show up in the Google's blended search results, you have to have videos submitted to other video sites. Examples include MSN, Yahoo, and AOL.

Avoid creating a jump page artificially, just for search engines, which is masking poor or fake content on your site. This is a great disservice to web users, and search engines do not like it. The bottom line is that search engines have become sophisticated, and they can detect a landing page that does not lead to anything relevant beneath. If they detect a jump page, they can penalize your whole website.

When creating content for your site, make every single word count. This means cutting out the most generic words, as well as eliminating pronouns - especially 'it' and 'that'. If, for example, your site is selling something, your product descriptions should contain only references to the product or brand name instead of pronouns.

To improve the chances of users finding your site through keywords, perfect your keyword density. If you use a keyword too frequently, search engines will ignore it, and not using it enough makes it harder for search engine to recognize. A keyword density of about three to five percent is optimal for search engines, and will give you much better results.

Use caution when linking your website to other websites in order to avoid being banned from Google's index for inadvertently associating yourself with Black Hat practitioners. Black Hat practitioners use cloaking, spamming, redirect pages and other deceptive means to try and circumvent search engine techniques. Although Google or other search engines can exclude your website from their index for linking to one of these sites, you won't be penalized if one of these sites link to yours.

In summary you want to do all that you can to learn about search engine optimization. There is a lot of information available, but we have provided some of the most important tips. Hopefully we have provided you with enough information to not only give you a solid background, but also further spark your interest for becoming an expert in it.
