How Google Improves Its Web Ranking Schemes

By Dorothy Raj

Any activities on the web that can be considered malicious should not be tolerated, as we all know. Any website owner who wants to have good rankings shouldn't be doing something that could get their website banned from search engines in the first place. But even though there have been efforts to counter these activities, why are malicious online activities still so rampant?

People have different reasons why they participate in improper SEO activities like black hat SEO. One, there are webmasters who believe they can manipulate search engines. Two, there are webmasters who believe search engines don't really treat these activities a big deal. Three, the penalties for these activities vary in terms of degree of punishment, though most often a website is delisted from search engines when caught violating good SEO practices.

This is why search engine companies find ways to improve and change their algorithms (usually without announcing it it) to ensure that only the most relevant website would appear on the result page. Examples of these are the newly implemented Google Panda and Penguin, both aiming to discourage webmasters from producing over optimized, spam-filled, and low quality websites.

This unyielding vigilance is one of the reasons businesses in Singapore prefer to submit their website to Google, aside from the fact that it's one of the commonly used search engines in the world. In this case, it's needless to say that the kind of SEO companies businesses in this country should hire must be familiar with Google's webmaster guidelines. Basically it covers three areas of website publishing, namely design and content, technical, and quality guidelines.

But what if your website consists of spam elements without being aware of it? It does happen, and in fact some web designers commit it several times due to over experimenting. This can also happen when some content management system generates hidden text sections. Although these don't intentionally mislead web surfers, search engines might read the hidden texts as a spamming technique.

Given the considerations above, it is important for businesses to deal with SEO SG companies that are professional and updated with the latest in search engine algorithms. In SEO nothing is constant, and only an SEO company that keeps up to date with the changes can guarantee their clients with good ranking results despite the ever changing SEO policies.
