Effective Versus Ineffective Websites

By Lize Monelt

People put a lot of stock into looks nowadays, and a website that is not well presented will be looked at negatively. So if your pages look like they are past their expiry date, it's time for an image update. Appearance is one thing, but there is more to a successful website than that. There are still dated-looking websites out there that generate traffic and revenue for their owners. This is not to your advantage though, so be sure to make your site look up-to-date.

To truly be successful, a website needs to pair both an attractive look and a solid business model. When setting up your site, it's important to take into consideration the type of product you are selling, digital or physical. Is generating sales leads for an offline business a priority for you?

Websites need a mechanism in place to gain something from their presence. They aren't sitting around, wishing for people to visit their website and spend their money on their products and services . Instead, they're actively utilizing well-established, well-recognized business models to allow them to profit off their online marketing.

Have something that no one else has on your site, so that when people see your page, they will want to stay and look around. Since there are so many websites to choose from, yours should be one-of-a-kind so that you will be noticed. Spending time implementing interactive features for your site's visitors, it should be a high priority for you, just as important as adding to your site's content. Invest time each day to bringing new visitors to your pages, and you'll quickly find the most effective way to reach out to your potential clients.

You should go with the assumption that every hit is a new visitor. Be sure to have the site designed well, so visitors can locate what they are looking for. Put yourself in their shoes, thinking, "If I was visiting this site, how would I get around?" Always have the customer in mind. A lot of people fail to keep this in mind. It is not important whether your favorite colors are blue and pink. Be sure to keep colors in mind that the visitor would like, not what you personally want. Never forget the person who matters most, the potential client. Be sure to carefully examine the results of your website, and compare them to the goals that you have set for yourself. If your website is not going to be clear and laid out properly, there it's pointless to even have it.

Websites need to have a clearly set out design with a goal in mind. When a clear goal is in mind for a website, the proper way to run it will become clear, and in time with analysis, the right content and way of engaging visitors will be found, and this will further enable you to become a more successful business.
