3 Things That Will Help You Hire a Great Virtual Assistant

By Bobbie Kirsch

Hiring a VA (virtual assistant) can be a blessing for your business, or a can be a curse you will regret. You know what can happen if you hire the wrong employee. The same thing can happen with the wrong VA. People say "hire slow and fire fast" because this is true. If you don't know what needs to occur while you are hiring, it can be difficult to make this process slow. You have to think of questions to ask your VA, ones that really matter. Some questions are obvious to us, yet others are not so obvious and take a little contemplation. If you receive replies from references, that's good. If you don't, contact them again to verify that they are real indeed.

Understanding how long it takes to get the work completed is something you need to know before you interview your virtual assistant. You can then ask the question regarding how long it will take them to do the work. Of course, there is always gray area in this type of discussion. You could have a slow VA, but they will turn in stellar work. Keep these points in mind when you interview and choose a person. Sometimes you will find someone really fast, but they do shoddy work. There will obviously be a range of duties that your VA will operate within. Make sure they know what they're doing, and start the work process.

When checking out your potential VAs, if you have a website, go look at it. By doing a whois search, you can discover more about each prospective VA. You have to verify this information, especially if you're going to hire them. In most cases, a VA will not have a website, so don't make it mandatory. In most cases, this is proper thinking Why wouldn't a professional have a website of their own? This is basically a personal preference on the part of the prospective VA. Most of them won't have a website, so don't judge them if they do not have one.

Obviously you are going to need to figure out the important stuff in terms of pay because that is what is important for both of you. Figure out what you feel comfortable paying before you start contacting and communicating with potential hirees. Typically a VA will agree to being paid an hourly rate but you will find at least a few who have different requirements. There are a lot of experienced VAs who have been around the block a few times and know exactly what they are worth. There are going to be some instances in which an experienced or specially skilled VA will be able to actually ask for a certain wage. You'll also find some who work on a project fee basis with a percentage paid upfront. There are all sorts of choices out there so help yourself by figuring out what you need and keep yourself open and flexible in the terms you will consider.

In conclusion, finding a VA is a very rewarding experience that can help your business. When you've made the right choice, everything will seem to work smoothly. It is a great feeling to know that so much work will get done. Accomplishing very important things during the day will definitely be possible once they are doing all of the tedious work. As you grow, you will hire more virtual assistance, hopefully in a short while. Hopefully, this will be a recurring pattern. As you hire more virtual assistants, this means your business is growing and making you more money.
